The Database Engineering team at Workday is responsible for ensuring the entire Workday’s Data related needs are met with high performance and scale, while providing utmost high availability that our customers expect from Workday. This team takes pride in ensuring seamless operation of 1000s of production and non-production databases across multiple data centers, public clouds and geographies. About the Role
Workday is looking for a highly skilled Senior SRE with a focus on Open-Source database technologies and Cloud Native solutions.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in crafting, developing, and running enterprise-level database systems with a keen emphasis on resiliency, high availability, security, and scalability. Proficiency in MySQL, PostgreSQL, and other Cloud Native database technologies is crucial,
About You
We are open to filling this position as either a mid-level engineer or a senior level engineer. Please see the qualifications for both, below.
Basic Qualifications - Mid Level:
- 6+ years experience in designing/developing/automating and managing critical production workloads on Aurora MySQL, RDS MySQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud native databases.
- 6+ years experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR.
- 2+ years of experience in backend development using modern programming languages (Golang, Python, Java) including Architecture, Design and Development.
- 4+ years hands-on experience in Cloud hyperscalers AWS/GCP
- 4+ years experience managing clustered, highly-available database services deployed on different flavors of Linux.
- Minimum 5+ years working experience in modern DevOps technologies and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), service deployment, monitoring and scaling.
Basic Qualifications - Senior Level:
- 8+ years experience in designing/developing/automating and managing critical production workloads on Aurora MySQL, RDS MySQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud native databases.
- 8+ years experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR.
- 4+ years of experience in backend development using modern programming languages (Golang, Python, Java) including Architecture, Design and Development.

- 4+ years experience managing clustered, highly-available database services deployed on different flavors of Linux.
- Minimum 5+ years working experience in modern DevOps technologies and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), service deployment, monitoring and scaling.
Other Qualifications:
- Knowledge of automation tools such as Terraform, Chef and Ansible.
- Familiarity with tools such as Ceph Storage, Gluster, Orchestrator for MySQL, Percona MHA, Percona Galera, Vitess, Pure Storage
- Experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Self-starter, highly motivated and ability to learn quickly.
- Excellent team player with extraordinary written & verbal communication skills.
- BS/MS degree in computer science.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
