Are you passionate about search engine optimization and eager to contribute to impactful initiatives at scale? Upwork is seeking a Product Manager, SEO to join our Product organization. Reporting to the Director of SEO, you’ll create and support SEO strategies while collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute optimization projects that drive business growth. This generalist and product-focused role spans technical, content, and strategic aspects of SEO, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Upwork’s platform and user experience.
Responsibilities

Support SEO initiatives across technical, content, and outreach tracks.

Conduct keyword research, competitor analysis, and performance audits to identify areas for improvement.

Create product requirements documents then see them through to execution and tracking.

Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Design teams to implement technical SEO. enhancements, such as improving site health, structured data, and performance optimization.

Work with Content and Marketing teams to ensure SEO best practices are integrated into new and existing content.

Monitor and analyze SEO performance metrics, creating reports and actionable insights for cross-functional partners.

Stay up to date on industry trends and algorithm updates to help refine strategies and tactics.

Advocate for SEO across the organization, promoting best practices and fostering alignment with business goals.
What it takes to catch our eye

Proven experience (3-5 years) in SEO, with a strong understanding of technical, on-page, and off-page SEO practices.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product, Marketing, and Content.

Develop and maintain SEO product requirements, partnering with Engineering to improve site health, structured data, internal linking, and page performance.

Proficiency with SEO tools such as Google Search Console, SEMRush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and similar platforms.

Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting data and generating actionable recommendations.

Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and how they relate to SEO.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain SEO concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience with A/B testing frameworks and their application to SEO is a plus.
