Job Description
The Senior Director of Accounting and Finance will play a pivotal role in steering the accounting and financial activities of the company. As a direct report to the CFO, this role will directly assist in strategic decision-making and overseeing the comprehensive month-end closing process, treasury and cash flow management, financial reporting and ensuring compliance and internal controls are in place. This position entails managing the complete financial cycle and accounting operations, from reconciliation to reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and GAAP principles. The Senior Director of Accounting and Finance will actively contribute to risk management strategies, provide insights into the financial health of the organization, and serve as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions and operations, including financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. This role also includes oversight of all tax, treasury and cash management activities and is responsible for compliance and internal controls.
- Oversee and manage the entire month-end closing process, including the creation of trial balances and reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee subledger processes, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation of all accounts.
- Ensure compliance with both IFRS and GAAP standards and regulations.
- Responsible to develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Work closely and help manage relationships with The Stepstone Group Accounting and Finance teams, external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
- Optimize financial processes and implement technology solutions to improve efficiency to help drive improved availability and accuracy of financial data.
- Collaborate with FinOps and Senior Leadership Teams to utilize and present insights that will inform and shape strategic initiatives.
- In collaboration with FinOps team leaders, proactively identify potential risks and opportunities, contributing to strategic decision-making processes.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement of department processes, systems, and policies, partnering closely with the CFO to action on recommendations.
- Oversee risk management strategies within the company, contributing to the overall stability and resilience of the organization.
- Act as the primary point of contact for a variety of external stakeholders and vendors including but not limited to tax and financial auditors, group treasury teams and banking institutions.
- Serve as the main Accounting point of contact for the Financial Systems and Data Strategy team, facilitating seamless communication and integration with interfacing finance systems.
- Support mergers, acquisitions and other financial transactions, as needed.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll laws and regulations, ensuring the organization's compliance with local, state, and federal payroll tax requirements.
- Cultivate a team culture that supports personal growth and continuous improvement, including conducting performance reviews, offering constructive feedback, and setting clear career development paths.
- Manage the recruitment and selection of new team members, ensuring a high-performing and cohesive team.
- Oversee resource planning for the team, optimizing resource allocation to meet business needs.
- Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Exceptional relationship management skills.

- Demonstrated ability to build and present compelling business cases to executive audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled at managing multiple priorities and relationships in a matrixed organization.
Education and Experience
- Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- CPA required
- 10+ years of experience with revenue control, financial reporting, and cash handling responsibilities.
- Ability to prepare monthly financial statements, key metric reports, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections and analyses
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP with IFRS accounting standards
- Experience with ERP systems, financial software and automation tools, including cash and credit card reports tools
Travel Requirements
Typical travel for this position will include quarterly travel, to attend internal and external meetings, however, this may vary based on business needs and opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will manage multiple direct reports and be a subject matter expert through numerous direct reporting relationships.
Expected Salary Range: $126,000-$209,500
