About the Role We’re looking for an Associate General Counsel, AI Product and Privacy to lead our global legal efforts in product development, data privacy, and artificial intelligence (AI). This role will report into our Chief Legal Officer and will partner closely with product, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure our products are developed and deployed in compliance with global privacy laws and AI regulations. The ideal candidate will possess deep legal expertise in privacy, AI, and product law, combined with strong leadership and business acumen. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive legal strategy that aligns with business objectives and ensures compliance with evolving privacy and AI regulations. Product Lifecycle Oversight: Advise and collaborate with product and engineering teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle to integrate privacy-by-design principles and AI governance frameworks, and to address IP (such as open-source) and other product related legal and compliance matters. Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret global privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Framework), providing actionable guidance to internal stakeholders. Policy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of internal policies and procedures related to data privacy, AI ethics, and responsible AI usage. Contract Negotiation: Improve, draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, AI-related contractual provisions, and other legal instruments to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with customers and partners on AI and HR topics. Represent the company in discussions with partners, customers, regulators, industry groups, and external stakeholders on privacy and AI governance matters. Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on privacy and AI obligations, fostering a culture of compliance across the organization. Qualifications: JD Degree and Active State Bar Membership 12+ years of relevant legal experience Bay Area based. Ability to commute to HQ office in Santa Clara, CA Prior in-house experience working side-by-side with engineering, product, and leadership teams to spot, address, and counsel on product, privacy, and AI issues Experience with understanding cross-functional perspectives and navigating ambiguity Ability to identify and create streamlined processes to support a growing company In-depth experience with employment laws is a plus Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust at all levels Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities Eagerness to work in a startup environment and flexibly roll up your sleeves to help drive our fast-paced and dynamic business within an emerging and rapidly developing industry We are a team of self-starters who excel in their fields.
