Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Tax Operations Specialist. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with MasterTax software and at least 3 years Tax Notice Resolution experience.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of payroll tax operations, including the filing of federal, state, and local tax returns. They should also be well-versed in the processes and procedures required to resolve federal, state, and local tax notices. Additionally, the ability to train and mentor tax specialists is essential.
Key responsibilities include ensuring accurate tax filings, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and addressing any payroll tax issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities:
Mastertax Software Management
Lead the implementation and configuration of MasterTax software to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings at the federal, state, and local levels
Oversee the transmission of tax deposits, ensuring they are processed correctly and on time
Resolve quarter-end variances and establish scalable operational frameworks and SOPs
Continuous Process Improvement
Identify and drive improvements across all critical Tax Operations processes, including payroll corrections and amendments
Support the implementation of KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
Tax Notice Resolution
Develop and implement procedures to effectively resolve federal, state, and local tax notices
Maintain prompt communication with tax authorities and work cross-functionally to minimize downstream errors impacting tax notices.
Collaboration and Communication
Establish clear escalation paths and collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure smooth payroll operations
Communicate proactively with employees and external partners to address payroll tax inquiries and issues
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience using MasterTax software
Minimum of 3 years of Tax Resolution experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant payroll processing experience in a payroll service bureau
Comfortable working on large datasets
Proven experience in managing payroll tax compliance and resolving tax notices
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
Proficient in G Suite, particularly Google sheets.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
